Hi Friends, Makeup Artist Katie here...

One poop too many!

It doesn’t matter how big or small the problem is, we all have things that happen to us in our daily lives that throw us off course 😖

These incidents can sometimes be the torch paper that ignites the start of a bad day.

So, whatever 'poop' is hitting your fan today, I hope what I’ve found to help in my life will help you gain perspective of what’s worth losing sleep over – and what's not 🛌

My 8 best tips to help!

Here are a few tips on how I’ve learnt to deal with life when the ‘poop hits the fan'! 💩

Tip
1

Is worrying helping?

It’s important not to allow a bad situation to dictate your mindset for all of your waking hours.

It’s natural to worry – but ask yourself in that moment: “Is worrying helping me or the situation?"

If the answer is 'no', then turn your thoughts into thinking of ways to solve the problem or make the situation more bearable 💡

This way of thinking will not only help the situation, but it will help your mental strength as well 🧠

2

Perspective is everything

If the problem involves another person – challenge yourself to see it from their perspective.

This can help you gain greater clarity and enables you to find a resolution much quicker.

If you can, try your best to momentarily remove your emotions from the situation and take a step back - you might be able to come to an understanding or compromise easier.

Looking objectively

Taking a moment to look down at the situation or event from a birds' eye perspective can be invaluable in allowing you to think more calmly and logical, and in turn better help you solve the problem.

4

Time-check yourself

Ask yourself this simple question: “Will this matter tomorrow, next week or in 6 months from now?” 🕰

This question helps me gain perspective on an issue.

5

Calm your brain

Leave the coffee and caffeine (even if just temporarily!) ☕️

Caffeine can add to feelings of anxiety and your brain will function with much more clarity if you drink a glass of water instead.

6

Breathe... correctly

Shallow breathing limits the diaphragm, and the lowest part of the lungs don’t get a full share of oxygenated air. This can make you feel short of breath and anxious 😖

Deep abdominal breathing encourages full oxygen to get into your bloodstream and can both slow the heartbeat and lower blood pressure.

Breathe in through your nose, hold the breath for a few seconds and then exhale through your mouth. The time it takes to exhale should be about twice the time to inhale 👃

Find the lesson

After a negative situation, ask yourself: “Is there anything I can learn from this

Challenge yourself to find a positive in amongst the poop!?

Sometimes the ‘poop’ can be are our greatest untapped resource for learning and improving our lives! 💡

This mindset can help make those 'poopy' times a little more bearable!

'A problem shared...'

...is a problem halved!'

I’m the first to admit that I’m not the best with sharing my problems.

I’m far better at solving other peoples’ problems than sharing my own, but when I do, wow – does it feel like a huge relief!

Sometimes just simply saying the problem out loud helps.

It’s also essential to get another’s perspective – they could have the perfect solution or know just the right words to say to lift your spirits! 👭

Here’s a favourite quote of mine that’s well worth remembering:

" Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles... it empties today of its strength. "
